In Villingen-Schwenningen, Mike Kopp is causing a culinary sensation with his food truck “Cook ‘n’ Roll – The Rolling Canteen”! The 37-year-old chef, who took the step into self-employment in April 2023, presents home-style German cuisine with an exciting twist - inspired by oriental and Mediterranean flavors. His dishes are a feast for the senses: zucchini hugs kalamata olives and tomatoes, while crunchy sprouts and pickled onions are served on homemade sourdough bread. It's not just cooking here; Art is brought to the plate here!
A bold step into the catering industry
The catering industry is not an easy place, and yet Kopp was undeterred. With over 20 years of experience in fine dining, including at Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, he knew what was important. “I had nothing to lose,” he explains. Despite the high competition from burger and fries trucks, he decided on a unique concept: roast beef with potato cheddar puree and teriyaki jus or South Tyrolean dumpling duo - his dishes are a real treat! And the response speaks for itself: Kopp has already served 600 meals in a single day – in sweltering heat!
In order to meet the challenges of self-employment, Kopp sought support from the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). “The advice was worth its weight in gold,” he enthuses, emphasizing the importance of having a solid business plan. His concept not only attracts foodies, but also requests for larger catering events, which is why he recently purchased a second, larger food truck. This means he is ideally equipped for weddings and company celebrations - the future looks bright for the creative chef from Villingen-Schwenningen!
