Ulm in the renovation: Large projects change the cityscape radically!
Ulm faces a gigantic traffic break! In the Danube city, several mega construction sites will provide immense inconvenience in the next few years. The orange construction fences and booming machines can no longer be overlooked. Ailing infrastructures are tackled here, and this requires a good dose of patience from all road users. The commuters of the region have to be prepared for massive traffic restrictions, because it won't just be a few minutes late - we are talking about traffic jams that are desperate!
The challenges are huge: the demolition of the Wallstrasse bridge on the Ikea, the renovation of the B10 and many other construction sites will fundamentally change the cityscape of Ulm. The city administration warns that traffic from the north will be massively affected. In order to avoid an impending traffic collapse and thus not to desolate the city center, Ulm is focusing on innovative communication strategies and a new app called "Ulm builds up". This is intended to help the citizens to better understand the consequences of the construction sites and to stay up to date.
Waiting for massive redesigns
Mayor Tim von Winning asks citizens to serenade and tolerance. "We don't do these construction sites because we like to build. Only in this way the city becomes sustainable." There is no question that many inconvenience will face road users. The most important cuts are to be expected for the coming years. The pedestrian zone will be fundamentally redesigned from 2026 to bring more quality of life to the city center - and of course also increase the concerns of some business owners.
The schedule is sporty! All construction projects should be completed by the State Garden Show 2030. The first construction work, such as the replacement of the Gänstorbrücke, is already carried out and should be completed by the end of 2027. It remains to be seen whether everything is going on as scheduled or whether the Ulm sinks into traffic chaos despite all the efforts.
