New commander for Ulm Bundeswehr Hospital: Friemert takes over!
A new star in the sky of the Bundeswehr Hospital Ulm! Higher Dard Benedikt Friemert is officially appointed commander on Friday after the previous commander, general practitioner Johannes Backus, has become deputy of the Bundeswehr's medical service. The time of the provisional management is over, and Friemert, an experienced specialist in trauma surgery and orthopedics, is now taking over the helm.
The 61-year-old Friemert brings an impressive career: from 2009 to 2022 he was a clinical director of trauma surgery and orthopedics at the Bundeswehr Hospital Ulm. His journey began in 1983 as a conscript, followed by studying medicine in Cologne. After several years in Munich, he returned to Ulm in 2006 and quickly became an expert in trauma supply and operational surgery. His merits were recognized with the "great honor for services to the Republic of Austria", an award that corresponds to the Federal Cross of Merit 1.

For the ceremonial handover of the command, top -class guests are expected, including chief general staff Ralf Hoffmann, who was commander in Ulm from 2016 to 2020, and Johannes Backus.
