Sustainable building: Experts discuss environmental protection in Stuttgart!

On January 9, 2025, an event dedicated to the topic of environmentally friendly building will take place in Stuttgart. The discussion will be entitled “Circular Planning and Building” and will begin at 7 p.m. in the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, Weissenhof Campus, Neubau 1, Glaskasten. The speakers include Ann Kathrin Goerke, project manager at Concular, and Margit Sichrovsky, architect and founder of LXSY Architects.

The event, organized by the Architecture Department of the ABK Stuttgart and the Architektur-Forum Baden-Württemberg Foundation, aims to discuss challenges in the building sector and question the term “sustainability” in construction. In addition, fact-based orientation is provided and examples of successful approaches to the “construction transition” are presented. For example, a single-family rental house is shown that was designed from recycled materials and was built by the construction company Gundlach Stuttgart newspaper reported.

Sustainable architectural solutions in Berlin

In Berlin-Schöneberg, the architects Jana Richter and Henri Praeger are working on an innovative residential building that is designed as a “material storage facility for the future”. The materials used are sorted according to their predicted lifespan to improve recyclability. The Südkreuz expansion house consists of a robust concrete shelf that is durable, while the facade is made entirely of wood and therefore has a medium service life.

The interior construction occupies a central place and is designed in such a way that it does not use composite materials to ensure separation by type in the event of demolition. The interior work is carried out by laying, screwing, plugging and pouring materials, which increases flexibility for future conversions. The Superuse Studios in Rotterdam, which became known for its creative recycling, are also pioneers of circular construction. An example of their approaches is a single-family house with a facade made of wood from old cable drums, such as AD Magazine reported.
