Construction work began in 2002 with a ceremonial laying of the foundation stone, and the first rooms were completed in 2012. The exhibition is designed by the Irish architectural firm Heneghan Peng and the Atelier Brückner from Stuttgart. Despite numerous delays, the project has now made it to opening.
