Bridge in blown in the blown: locked railway line!
On Wednesday afternoon there was a sudden blocking of the railway line between Ulm and Blaubeuren, for a serious reason: a bridge that leads over the tracks in the Altthental is in a state that is classified as unsafe. For security reasons, train journeys under this bridge have no longer been possible.
The narrow street bridge, located opposite the quarry on the Wippinger Heusteige, is owned by the city of Blaustein. As a precaution, the street over the bridge was closed on the same morning. Around half past two in the afternoon, the railway turned to the public and announced the closure of the railway line below.
Problems with rail replacement traffic
Although the tracks were blocked, the train announced only an hour after the closure via X (formerly Twitter) that no more trains are going. At times, the scoreboard at Herrlinger Bahnhof continued to show timetables that provide the train operation to Blaubeuren, while these cannot take place in reality. The announced bus replacement traffic between Herrlingen and Blaubeuren was to start at 6 p.m., but was delayed to around 6.45 p.m.
The passengers were in the meantime forced to use the normal line buses between the blue and Blaubeuren. While the trains ran again from Blaubeuren in the direction of Ehingen, the situation for travelers who rely on this connection remained confusing.
The situation of the residents
There is a particularly tense situation for the residents in the Altthal, such as Jens Wagner, who runs a time -out there. For him, the blocked bridge represents the only access option to the houses on Blaubeurer. The tray path, which runs in parallel to the railway line, has been the only access since the bridge closure, and Wagner is serious, as could influence the delivery of packages and waste abroad.
The Blaustein fire brigade has already reacted and checks the access options. Commandant Jörg Mayer states that the fire brigade will cut back a few hedges to facilitate access for emergency vehicles. This is particularly important to ensure that help can quickly get to the residents in an emergency. The rescue control center in Ulm also noted the information about the bridge closure in order to inform the emergency services accordingly.
statement by Deutsche Bahn
In a short message regarding the ongoing block, the Deutsche Bahn explained on Wednesday: "Dear passengers, the duration of the block will last at least until October 31. The damage is on the bridge. Today, on October 16, we have replacement traffic between Ulm Hauptbahnhof and Blaubeuren in commuting. More on this topic can be found in a report on www.schwaebische.de .
