Beaver causes chaos: there is a risk of a tree falling right next to the house!
In the picturesque Ostrach suburb of Magenbuch, a beaver caused massive excitement. The furry rodent not only inhabited nearby Reichenbach, but also moved its activities ever closer to residential developments. Gerhard Dreher, a local resident, is annoyed by the beaver's behavior: It has nibbled on a tree in Dreher's garden so badly that it is about to fall over. "Luckily the tree won't damage the house if it falls. But of course that didn't have to be the case," said Dreher in frustration, as stated on the website Swabian newspaper is reported.
A beggar in his own garden
The beaver has significantly restricted the lives of local residents in Magenbuch. Dreher and his brother have already tried to keep the rodent away through various measures, such as smearing it with beech wood tar, but without lasting success. Dreher announced that they want to set up a private initiative to get support from higher authorities. “Nobody is doing anything, it really can’t be,” he complained. The beaver has already eroded a slope in the area and destroyed several fishing ponds at an adjacent trout farm. This ultimately forced trout farming to give up.
The annoyances with the beaver are not only local, but also point to a larger problem in which humans and animals are in constant conflict. The beaver is known for building dams on bodies of water and can cause massive damage as a result. One wonders when the authorities will finally take action. As Dreher sums it up profanely: “You really don’t have to put up with everything.” Unfortunately, the residents here seem to be on their own while the beaver continues to wreak havoc.
