Future of the Solemar-Therme: renovation or new building in Bad Dürrheim?

The Solemar-Therme in Bad Dürrheim is facing a crucial turn! In secret meetings, a team of experts has developed three exciting renovation scenarios that could determine the fate of this popular thermal bath. The plans are ambitious and promise a new era for the bathroom operated since 1987, the condition of which has deteriorated dramatically in recent years.

The first scenario provides for a pure renovation of the existing structure, supplemented by a planned cultivation that would offer new gastronomy and extended relaxation areas. The iconic dome roofs of the thermal baths should be preserved, which are already a landmark of Bad Dürrheim. The second scenario, on the other hand, relies on a comprehensive gutting of the building, whereby only the striking dome roof would stop. This radical variant aims to achieve both energetic and operational improvements. And the third scenario? A complete new building at a new location that could avoid closing the existing thermal baths and offers maximum flexibility in the design!

The central question remains

But what happens to the famous dome roofs when a new building is realized? This question hovers over the plans because the wooden structures represent a nationally known landmark. The coarse costs for all three variants are in the middle double-digit million range, and the decision about the future of the Solemar-Therme should be made by the end of 2025 at the latest. Managing Director Markus Spettett emphasizes the need to include all relevant factors in the planning, while Mayor Jonathan Berggötz is confident that a competitive solution is found.

The renovation is urgently needed because the thermal bath has to deal with leaky pelvic cladding and other structural problems. While the bathing area has to be extensively renovated, other areas such as the sauna area and the therapy center remain unaffected. Kur- und Bäder GmbH plans to start the renovation at the earliest in 2027, and the tension increases while the citizens are waiting for the decision!
