Rottweil builds Germany's most expensive prison for 500 prisoners!
Rottweil, Deutschland - in Rottweil, Baden-Württemberg, is the most expensive prison in Germany! With a gigantic budget of 280 million euros, the new correctional facility (JVA) is being built between the elevator test tower and the Autobahn Neckartalbrücke. There is space for up to 500 prisoners on an area of 25,000 square meters. If everything goes according to plan, the company should be started in 2027.
The decision for Rottweil fell after an intensive search for location that started in 2012. In addition to Rottweil, Villingen-Schwenningen and Meßstetten had also shown interest. But the city of Rottweil prevailed, not least because of the excellent traffic connection and the proximity to several regional courts. These factors make it easier to attend detainees and make transports at court dates.
massive construction work and ecological measures
The first excavators rolled onto the site on June 12, 2023, and the earth and civil engineering work started in August. A total of 160,000 cubic meters of earth are moved, which corresponds to 16,000 truck trips, which can thus be saved. The dimensions of the construction site are so impressive that they can only be fully recorded from the air. 18 different areas of use are planned that are built on the entire site.
Special attention was paid to the energetic equipment. The new prison will exceed the current building energy standards by 30 percent. Among other things, a heat pump with wood chips and biodiversity roofs with photovoltaic systems are planned, which are intended to deliver an output of 1.8 megawatts. The construction site is a real spectacle, with a constant stream of trucks and cranes that work diligently. Customs are also regularly on site to control the construction site for undeclared work.
