Ravensburg is struggling with a staff shortage: hiring freeze in sight!

Ravensburg is facing an alarming challenge! The city administration is planning a drastic hiring freeze that will affect 30 to 40 positions. The reason for this is the worrying financial outlook for the coming year, which makes an approved budget impossible. There is a lack of money everywhere, and this situation could soon have a catastrophic impact on the city government's operations.

The necessity of these measures raises major questions. At the most recent local council meeting it became clear that the personnel situation is already tense. City councilor Maria Weithmann (Greens) drew attention to the long waiting times for applications at the building and immigration office. Mayor Simon Blümcke pointed out the high level of bureaucracy in immigration law and emphasized that the jobs there were not very attractive for many. Despite an increase in staff, numerous positions remain unfilled.

Staff shortages affect all areas

The situation in the Ravensburg youth center is also becoming critical. The center remains closed more and more often - due to a lack of staff! Things also look bleak when it comes to outreach youth work. Christoph Sitta (CDU) asked about the situation in the indoor swimming pool, but the employees there are also facing challenges. Blümcke assured that opening hours would not be restricted – as long as no employee is sick or has quit.

Another problem: The city is having difficulty finding cleaners for its 100 facilities, which Mayor Dirk Bastin sums up: “There are no cleaners.” The city has now re-tendered the cleaning tasks, but the providers are suffering from a massive shortage of staff. The impending cuts and the increasing shortage of skilled workers not only apply to Ravensburg, but are also affecting many municipalities in the region and are causing great unrest. How the situation will change dramatically with a hiring freeze remains questionable!
