New managing director at the Sassnitz ferry port: Henry Forster takes over!

On January 1, 2025, Henry Forster will take over the management of Fährhafen Sassnitz GmbH. The decision, which was made unanimously by the shareholders of the city of Sassnitz and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, marks a change at the top of the port. Forster, a native of Sassnitz, brings extensive experience in the development and energetic transformation of companies.

His professional career includes positions at Nehlsen AG in Bremen, GOA mbH in Baden-Württemberg and Ihlenberger waste entsorgungsgesellschaft mbH. Forster succeeds Harm Sievers, who retired on September 30, 2024. During the transition period, Fridjof Ostenberg, who was previously authorized signatory and head of the legal department, was interim managing director from October 1, 2024.

Important role of the port

The port of Sassnitz-Mukran is considered a central partner in the Baltic Sea region and plays a key role as an installation and maintenance port for the offshore industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. With a total area of almost 430 hectares, Mukran Port offers ferry, railway, multipurpose and offshore terminals as well as production and storage areas. It also has sea connections to almost all Baltic Sea neighbors, which makes access to the port easier and creates ideal conditions for the offshore wind industry. There are several offshore wind farms in the area, which are a maximum of 30 nautical miles away.

The official welcome of Henry Forster took place in the presence of State Secretary Ines Jesse, Mayor Leon Kräusche and representatives of the city of Sassnitz. Forster's expertise in the areas of energy and logistics will help promote the port's strategic development and establish stable connections with national and international partners.
