New managing director at the Fährhafen Sassnitz: Henry Forster takes over!
On January 1, 2025, Henry Forster took over the management of Fährhafen Sassnitz GmbH. The decision, which was unanimously made by the partners' city of Sassnitz and the Land of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, marks a change at the top of the port. Forster, native of Sassnitzer, brings extensive experience in the development and energetic transformation of companies.
His professional career includes positions at Nehlsen AG in Bremen, Goa mbH in Baden-Württemberg and the Ihlenberger waste organs. Forster succeeds Harm Sievers, who retired on September 30, 2024. In the transition period, Fridjof Ostenberg, who previously had authorized representative and head of the legal department, was interim manager since October 1, 2024.
important role of the port
The port of Sassnitz-Mukran is considered a central partner in the Baltic Sea area and plays a key role as an installation and maintenance harbor for the offshore industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. With a total area of almost 430 hectares, the Mukran offers port ferry, railway, multipurpose and offshore terminals as well as production and storage areas. It also has lake connections to almost all Baltic Sea residers, which makes it easier to control the port and create ideal conditions for the offshore wind industry. There are several offshore wind farms in the area that are a maximum of 30 nautical miles.
The official greeting of Henry Forster took place in the presence of State Secretary Ines Jesse, Mayor Leon Kräusche and representatives of the city of Sassnitz. Forster expertise in the areas of energy and logistics should help promote the strategic development of the port and to establish stable connections to national and international partners.
