Aldi Süd: New apartments for students in Tübingen and Landau!
Aldi Süd is revolutionizing the housing market! In Tübingen, Landau and Mannheim, exciting new living spaces are being built specifically for students, directly on and next to the Aldi branches. This initiative is not only a clever move by the company, but also an urgent response to the massive housing shortage in Baden-Württemberg, where there is a shortage of over 46,000 places in dormitories!
Since 2016, Aldi Süd has been showing how to successfully combine living space and retail. 40 apartments for students were built in Tübingen, and now another 30 apartments are being added above a new branch. "The combination with student housing works very well at many Aldi Süd locations. The many newly built apartments show how great the need is," explains Jan Riemann, Group Director Real Estate at Aldi Süd. A clear signal that the demand for student housing is enormous!
New construction projects in full swing
But that's not all! Aldi Süd plans to create around 550 new residential units by the end of the year, with around half intended for students. The second student residence is already being built in Landau in cooperation with the Vorderpfalz Student Union, and the topping-out ceremony is imminent. Andreas Schülke, managing director of the student union, emphasizes: “In university towns with a tight housing market, the increase in Aldi Süd is a win-win situation for everyone involved.” The company relies on intelligent interior densification and thus offers a solution to the pressing housing problems in cities.
And best of all: the next exciting project is already being planned in Mannheim! A mixed-use property with over 150 residential units for students is being built there on the campus of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University. Aldi Süd has big plans: In the coming years, a total of 750 apartments are to be built in Hesse, 600 in North Rhine-Westphalia, 450 in Baden-Württemberg, 200 in Bavaria and 50 in Rhineland-Palatinate. The future of living is here, and it's exciting!
