Wertheim: Hospital reconstruction is gaining momentum – the city is digging deep into its pockets!
The reconstruction of the closed Wertheim hospital is gaining momentum! On Monday, the Wertheim local council unanimously approved an agreement with Bürgerspital Wertheim GmbH, which provides for the operation of a hospital with emergency care and a stroke unit. In return, the city undertakes to contribute up to 2.75 million euros annually to the expected deficit. If the deficit is higher, the operator will have to pay for it himself. A step that is of the utmost importance for the citizens of Wertheim, because without this promise, basic, regular and emergency care in the city would have been in jeopardy!
The insolvent clinic was closed in June after negotiations with investors failed. With the purchase of the hospital site by the city and the cooperation with Bürgerspital Wertheim GmbH, a new path is now being taken. Mayor Markus Herrera Torrez emphasizes the urgency of the situation and the need to secure the financing commitment as quickly as possible. The city must now prove that it is financially capable of taking on this responsibility. A crucial meeting on the budget retreat is already scheduled for November 16th.
Support from the district and neighboring communities
The district council has already signaled that it would like to support the city with financing. The local council has also decided to ask neighboring municipalities for financial participation, as their citizens would also benefit from the resumption of emergency care. Herrera Torrez described the local council's unanimous decision as a “courageous step” and emphasized that one cannot wait for solutions from outside. Within just three months, the resumption of hospital operations was within reach!
While Mediclin's inpatient neurological rehabilitation facility and the existing dialysis center remain unaffected by this agreement, the signs for medical care in Wertheim are clear: a new beginning is being made and the city is ready to take on the challenges!
