Garbage fees in the Main-Tauber district rise: What does that mean for the citizens?
From January 1, 2025, the citizens of the Main-Tauber district must expect higher garbage fees. In its meeting on December 4, the district council unanimously decided to increase the fees for the gray residual waste bins. This increases the annual fee for a 60-liter tone to 86 euros, while the costs for a 240-liter tone increase to 320 euros per year. This adjustment is made in order to cover increased costs in waste disposal, in particular through higher expenses for waste incineration and personnel costs. A CO2 pricing, which causes additional operating costs, also contributes to the need to increase.
Despite the price adjustments, the Main-Tauber district remains competitive and continues to offer relatively cheap fees compared to neighboring circles such as Schwäbisch Hall or the Hohenlohe district, as district administrator Christoph Schauder emphasized. An average four-person household pays 152.80 euros annually with a 60-liter residual waste bin and an 80-liter biotonne-significantly below the Baden-Württemberg average of 190.27 euros. The fees for biotons and residual waste bags remain unchanged. According to the report from Main-auber-kreis.de the new fee structure was calculated in such a way that the fees can remain stable up to and including 2026.
The decision on the increase did not come without discussion, even if all members of the district council agreed to the proposal. Critical voices, such as those of Rainer Moritz of Bündnis 90/The Greens, expressed concerns about insufficient incentive to avoid waste. Nevertheless, the district administrator said that the changes were necessary to ensure the sustainable financing of waste disposal in the district. Through these adjustments, the district reacts to the economic challenges and changing framework conditions in the waste market.
