Strike chaos in Stuttgart: Commuters have to expect cancellations again!
Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – Chaos in local transport! Commuters and travelers in the southwest once again have to prepare for massive delays and cancellations. On the second day of the warning strike, which continued as planned, the effects were dramatic. The Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG) and the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) are severely affected. The S-Bahn trains in the Karlsruhe area in particular are at a standstill, and the situation is comparable to the disruptions on Monday.
The strike measures affect numerous routes in the Rhine-Neckar, South Baden, Fils-Neckar-Alb, Heilbronn-Neckar-Franconia and Ulm-Upper Swabia regions. There were already massive disruptions in bus and train traffic on Monday, and similar disruptions are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday. Passengers are urged to seek alternative transportation options to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams.
Verdi increases the pressure before negotiations
The strike at SWEG is expected to last until Wednesday, while AVG initially only announced a warning strike day. The reason for these drastic measures is the ongoing negotiations on the railway collective agreement, on which Verdi and the employers' association are still far apart. The union plans to increase pressure on employers ahead of negotiations on Thursday. There were similar warning strikes in October and November and the situation remains tense.
