Karlsruhe shines orange: A strong sign against violence against women!

Waghäusel, Deutschland - on November 25th, the international day against violence against women and girls, DM-Drogerie Markt will set a radiant sign! As part of the UN campaign "Orange the World", the Dialogicum and the distribution centers in Waghäusel, Weilerswist, Wustermark and Karlsruhe illuminate in bright orange. This action is intended to draw attention to the terrifying reality of gender -specific violence and strengthen support for those affected. The orange lighting of the Durlacher Turmberg in Karlsruhe will act as a visible symbol.

"Violence against women and girls is a grievance that is available in all companies," explains Christoph Werner, the chairman of the DM management. The current statistics of the Federal Ministry of the Interior show alarming figures: In 2023, 938 women and girls were victims of attempted or accomplished homicide, over 52,330 sex crimes suffered, and almost 17,200 became victims of digital violence such as cyberstalking. These terrifying numbers illustrate the urgency to raise awareness of these topics and to offer affected help.

a shining sign of women's rights

The orange lighting will not only be shown in the distribution centers, but also in striking places in Karlsruhe, including the towers of the town hall and the Stephanskirche. This campaign will continue in the Waghäusel distribution center until December 2. The color orange stands for the international campaign, which has been fighting violence against women since 1991 and strives for social and legal changes. Accompanying this, DM will be active on its social media channels and use the hashtags #16Days and #Allezweits to emphasize the relevance of the topic and to communicate offers for those affected.

For women who have experienced violence, the help telephone "Violence against Women" is available under number 116 016. Also the app of the association "Nonviolizers into the Future e.V." offers support and information for those affected. The UN campaign "Orange the World" runs until the day of human rights on December 10th and mobilizes people worldwide to set an example against violence against women and girls.
