Karlsruhe lights up orange: A strong signal against violence against women!

On November 25th, the International Day against Violence against Women and Girls, dm-drogerie markt will set a bright example! As part of the UN campaign “Orange the World”, the dialogicum and the distribution centers in Waghäusel, Weilerswist, Wustermark and Karlsruhe are illuminated in bright orange. This campaign aims to draw attention to the frightening reality of gender-based violence and strengthen support for those affected. The orange lighting of the Durlacher Turmberg in Karlsruhe will act as a symbol that can be seen from afar.

“Violence against women and girls is a grievance that exists in all societies,” explains Christoph Werner, chairman of the dm management. The current statistics from the Federal Ministry of the Interior show alarming figures: In 2023, 938 women and girls were victims of attempted or completed homicide, over 52,330 suffered sexual offenses, and almost 17,200 were victims of digital violence such as cyberstalking. These frightening numbers highlight the urgency of raising awareness of these issues and offering help to those affected.

A shining sign for women's rights

The orange lighting will be visible not only in the distribution centers, but also in prominent locations in Karlsruhe, including the towers of the town hall and St. Stephen's Church. This campaign will continue until December 2nd at the Waghäusel distribution center. The color orange stands for the international campaign that has been fighting violence against women since 1991 and is striving for social and legal changes. In addition, dm will be active on its social media channels and use the hashtags #16Days and #AlleZweiTage to emphasize the relevance of the topic and communicate offers of help for those affected.

For women who have experienced violence, the “Violence against Women” helpline is available on 116 016. The app from the association “Gewaltfrei in die Zukunft e.V.” offers support and information for those affected. The UN campaign “Orange the World” runs until Human Rights Day on December 10th and mobilizes people around the world to take a stand against violence against women and girls.
