Kochertal Bridge: Germany's highest building impresses!

The Kochertal Bridge in Baden-Württemberg is not only one of the most important buildings in the country, but also holds the title of the highest bridge in Germany. It is an impressive example of engineering and represents an important transport connection.

With a height of 185 meters above the valley floor, this bridge spans the Kochertal and establishes a connection to the busy A6 motorway, which leads from Heilbronn to Nuremberg. Interestingly, the bridge was built between 1976 and 1979 by a cooperation between the construction company Züblin, Dywidag and Wayss & Freytag and has been released for traffic since December 18, 1979.

architectural masterpiece

The bridge extends over a length of 1,128 meters and not only shapes the landscape, but is also depicted in the coat of arms of the Braunsbach community. It is particularly noteworthy that it overlooks the highest church tower in the world, the Ulm Münster, by six meters. These dimensions make the Kochertal Bridge an architectural sensation and an attraction for engineers and architectural prospective.

To keep the bridge in good condition, there were extensive renovation work between 2013 and 2015, which cost around 22.4 million euros. Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann emphasized when the work was completed that the bridge, even after four decades, lives up to its original tasks and is an important infrastructure facility. In addition, the renovation was awarded the German Bridge Construction Award in 2016, which underlines the high engineering art and the importance of this building.

"The Kochertalbrücke is a masterpiece of German engineering arts", says Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. A bridge museum in Geislingen, which was built in memory of the bridge, offers informative insights into your construction and the engineering challenges that were connected with it.

The bridge not only remains an important part of the transport infrastructure, but is also a symbol of technical innovations and progress in construction. Their impressive height and construction attract not only commuters, but also tourists and interested parties who want to learn more about the history and technology of the bridge building.
