Climate change: Blue algae threaten Lake Constance - experts raise the alarm!

alarming knowledge from the Antarctic! The well -known environmental toxicologist Daniel Dietrich from the University of Konstanz has determined massive changes in the ecosystem of the polar regions, which could have direct effects on water such as Lake Constance. In his latest lecture at the Institute for Seen Research, he described the catastrophic consequences of global warming, which threaten not only the climate but also our water sources. The temperature increases are particularly extreme in the polar regions - between 2006 and 2015 the values there rose 100 % faster than in the rest of the world!

Blue algae - often incorrectly referred to as algae - are not only an aesthetic problem in our waters, but a serious health risk. With the increasing water temperature, these cyanobacteria spread more and more intensely and produce dangerous toxins. Warning nutrition experts: As a result of fertilizer fertilization and warmer water, more and more waters are becoming stinking algae puddles that damage the water quality dangerously. In Lake Constance and Lake Zurich, the sporadic occurrence of these dangerous bacteria has already been observed - a warning signal! These toxins can damage the liver and even be fatal in extreme cases.

global warming and the poison in our waters

The scientific analyzes in the coldest regions of the earth are worrying! Dietrich stated in experiments: the temperature increases, the variety of cyanobacteria decreases, at the same time the poisonous species increase. This could have catastrophic consequences for drinking water supply! With the increase in drought and falling groundwater levels, waters are increasingly becoming a source of drinking water. The future of Lake Constance is therefore on the brink - the danger from toxic cyanobacteria is no longer ignorable. An exchange of poisonous species could become a serious threat!

Is Lake Constance really in danger? Dietrich cannot give a definitive yes. So far there has been no massive exchange, but the problems are clear: the current changes could find their way into and endanger the drinking water supply significantly. Research has to go on, because the dangers are real, and the pressure on the water resources grows every day!
