New chief of police in Ulm: Security in Magdeburg in focus!
Josef Veser took over the management of the Ulm police headquarters on November 1, 2024. Previously, he was deputy head of the Presidium and entered the police service in 1985. The 61-year-old Veser comes from Munderkingen in the Alb-Donau district and brings extensive experiences from various positions in the Baden-Württemberg Interior Ministry and the Ulm police headquarters.
Veser expressedwhen he was introduced that he was now in the spotlight, which was new to him. His predecessor, Bernhard Weber, left no special instructions because they had worked together for many years. Veser emphasizes that he wants to be active in the future and does not just want to stay in the office. The events around the attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, in which six people were killed, influenced the security situation in the Region. As a result, the focus is on security concepts for major events, including football games, carnival, swear monday and shooting festival.
Focus of police work
In his new role, Veser has already checked the security concepts in Magdeburg after the incident and made adjustments. He sees the need to include the global situation, especially the Middle East conflict, in the risk analyzes of the police. Anti -Semitic hostility, as occurred in Langenau, are taken seriously by the police to show an increased presence.
2023, the Ulm Presidium recorded a ten-year high in violence against police officers. Veser observes a decline in respect for the police, which in his opinion is partially due to questions of education. The changes in the police service since it occurred 39 years ago are significant, especially with regard to equipment and training. The focus on the mental health of the police officers has also increased with a comprehensive care system that now exists.
a new era of police work
Josef Veser initially struggled with his career choice after moving from the university to the police. A formative moment in his career was the use of the nuclear waste camp in Gorleben in the 2000s. As head of the Ulm police headquarters, Veser is now responsible for around 1,700 civil servants and over 920,000 citizens. His declared goal is to have healthy employees and to convey a safe feeling in the region to the citizens.
