Christmas joy despite homelessness: a festival full of hope in Gmünd

Aalener Straße 51, 73525 Schwäbisch Gmünd, Deutschland - In Schwäbisch Gmünd, an “open-air” Christmas party was recently celebrated for the residents of the homeless accommodation on Aalener Strasse. Despite the difficult living conditions of the approximately 30 residents, who often got into homelessness through personal blows of fate such as divorces and illnesses, the event was very well received. The mixed company enjoyed the warming campfire and a meal together, while the atmosphere was loosened up by the festively decorated surroundings. Regina Schwarz vom Jufun, the Catholic parish of St. Francis and numerous volunteers, praised the commitment of their helpers, who made this special celebration possible, such as reported.

fire in homeless accommodation in Aalen

In the meantime, a terrifying incident occurred in Aalen when a 52-year-old resident of the homeless accommodation presumably put a fire in his room, which led to a large fire. The man, who apparently suffers from a mental disorder, was instructed in a psychiatric facility after he was already on fire when the rescue workers arrived. In this incident, five people, including four residents and a policewoman, suffered from all of the smoke poisoning. The property damage incurred amounts to at least 150,000 euros. Due to the accommodation, the accommodation is currently uninhabitable, and the residents concerned have been converted into other facilities, such as reported the Schwäbische Zeitung

Due to these events, the precarious situation of homeless people in the region becomes clear that not only suffer from the challenges of their living conditions, but also endangered by violent and unpredictable incidents.
