Avancis stops production in Torgau: 162 jobs in danger!
Torgau. A shock for the region! Avancis, the manufacturer colorful high-tech solar modules, announces the setting of production at the Torgau location! In the coming weeks, the production of the popular solar modules, which were previously known for their striking aesthetics, will be discontinued. Of the currently 162 employees, including almost 100 in production, many are affected by the termination. Managing Director Helmut Frankenberger blames the exorbitant increased prices for industrial stream. Production in Germany is simply no longer profitable!
The employees have already been informed about the decision of the parent company China National Building Materials (CNBM) last week. In the future, the solar modules from China will be delivered. The future of the jobs is uncertain, but HR manager Guido Lehmann and production manager Iris Didschuns emphasize that discussions with the works council are already running about possible severance payments and social plans. Trainees are not affected by the closure - a little ray of hope in this dark situation.
One of the reasons: Expensive industrial flow
The decision to cease production is bitter, but the Torgau location should continue to exist. Although the modules are no longer manufactured here, the administration and the color finishing remains on site. Avancis plans to use the new coating in Munich as part of a pilot line for color finishing, which is suitable for both CIGS and silicon modules. While the Torgau location is considered important, the question remains how many jobs will ultimately be lost. The solar industry is highly competitive, and Avancis now has to reorient itself in order to survive in this difficult market.
The colorful solar modules from Torgau enjoy great popularity among architects and builders. But the increasing production costs have heavily burdened the company. Avancis was founded in 2006 and has been part of the Chinese state company CNBM since 2014. With the closure of the production in Torgau, a chapter in the history of solar technology is closed, while the industry continues to fight for the best solutions.
