Danger! Fake tax office SMS force citizens to pay immediate payment!
Lately, a worrying phishing wave has spread in the form of fake SMS messages that are sent by fraudsters. These messages pretend to come from the Ministry of Finance and ask the citizens to immediately transfer debt amounts due to "multiple reminders". According to a warning of the gailtal-journal , those affected receive the urgent note to pay their supposed debts immediately, otherwise a garnishment will be carried out on Friday, April 4 2025.
In the SMS, you are asked to open a link to "pay the debts immediately". This link leads users to one side that looks deceptively real and apparently modeled on the appearance of the Ministry of Finance. An amount of 243.18 euros is required, which underlines the urgency of the payment request. However, the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) has confirmed that these requests do not come from them, but from criminals who want to enrich themselves with the trust of the citizens.
cyber security situation
Such fraud attempts are part of a major problem in the field of cyber security. The Federal Office for Information Technology (BSI) regularly provides for the security situation in Germany. These reports contain numerous key figures, tables and graphics that document the development and challenges in the cyber area.
The reports of the BSI are updated monthly and quarterly and thus offer current insights into the cyber threats, which primarily affect companies and public administration. In addition to reports on emails and spam emails, data on weakness prevention in the federal administration are also published. The comprehensive statistical recording should help to better understand potential risks and take preventive measures.
Caution is required
In view of this current phishing wave, it is crucial that citizens are vigilant and act skeptically with such requests for paying. Official bodies will never request payments via SMS. If you receive such messages, you will advise you not to open such links and instead contact official authorities directly in order to check the authenticity of the payment request. In times of digital communication, it is important to act security -conscious and to protect personal data and financial information in order not to become victims of such fraudulent machinations.
