VKI warns: Dangerous caffeine in Holy Energy for young people!

The alarm bells ring! The Association for Consumer Information (VKI) has again warned of the "Holy Energy" brand. These powder -shaped drinks contain the quantity of two doses "Red Bull" per portion bag - a total of 160 milligrams! This means that a portion already exceeds the recommended daily dose for children and adolescents under 53 kilograms. The warning published on Thursday emphasizes that excessive caffeine consumption can cause serious health risks such as shortness of breath, tremors, nausea and anxiety, according to the Austrian Agency for Health and Nutritional Safety (AGES).

The design of the "Holy Energy" products clearly aims at a young target group. Despite existing warnings on the packaging, they are placed extremely unobtrusively on the back. This leads to a high probability that young people who consume the product in particular incorrectly assess the risks. Nutritionist Teresa Bauer from the VKI criticized that there is no ban on sales for caffeinated drinks to children and adolescents in Austria - in contrast to countries such as Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, where the sale is heavily regulated. "The comparison with Red Bull is simply not right," said Bauer and made it clear that the caffeine content in a bag is consumed at once, while Red Bull can be distributed over a larger amount, which leads to a faster exceeding of the limit values.

special caution recommended

The manufacturer's recommendation to consume "Holy Energy" from the age of 16 is criticized because responsibility is still in the case of trade. The SPAR supermarket argues that a 250-milliliter portion contains as much caffeine as in a can "Red Bull", but the analysis shows that this does not correspond to the actual dangers. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the harmless caffeine intake for children and adolescents is a maximum of three milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day. This guideline shows that a single portion of "Holy Energy" is already too much for many children and adolescents, which could have serious health consequences, as the VKI emphasizes again and again.

The warnings are clear: children and adolescents should not consume caffeinated drinks as possible so as not to endanger their health. Parents in particular are asked to show vigilance when buying such products and put the well -being of their children in the first place in order to avoid undesirable health effects.
