Vorarlberg celebrates the start of the Christmas tree season with an atmospheric event at the Sunnahof, where 31 companies carefully maintain high-quality Christmas trees all year round. According to a survey, 89 percent of buyers want a local tree, but only 20 percent of the trees on offer are actually from the region. The “star on the tree” is highlighted as an important identifying feature that guarantees local origin. The managing director of the Sunnahof, Christian Zangerle, emphasized that the farm is not just a sales location, but also a place of inclusion, which is underpinned by a variety of experience options, such as warming punch, Christmas music and animal encounters. The sales period runs until December 21, 2024, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as VOL.AT reported.

Consolidation without setbacks

Parallel to the celebrations, Vorarlberg is facing the challenge of financial consolidation. In the 2025 budget estimate, State Governor Markus Wallner announced a savings and investment course in order to stabilize the framework conditions for the economy. Expenditures should be kept moderate, while income is expected to be around 970 million euros, which corresponds to a moderate increase of 1.8 percent. Investments in education, health and social infrastructure are the top priority: 150.2 million euros are earmarked for early childhood education in order to offer all children equal opportunities.
