Mourning for Dr. Jeffrey Carr: A Life for Community Health
Dr. Jeffrey Carr, a respected Putnam County physician, has died at the age of 86. In addition to being a well-known specialist at Putnam Hospital Center, he served in several significant leadership positions, including medical director of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services. Carr was a pioneer of the Westchester-Putnam Hospice program and contributed significantly to the medical community as a past president of the Putnam County Medical Society. His commitment to patient care, education and leadership is highly valued by family and friends, such as Putnam County Courier reported.
After studying medicine and completing his internal medicine training at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, Dr. Carr served as a captain in the United States Army Medical Corps during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge. Upon his return, he served as a practicing physician in Mahopac and Carmel, and as medical director at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home and Day Top Village. Despite his retirement, he continued his commitment to health care. Carr is survived by his wife, Diane, four children and seven grandchildren, and donations in lieu of flowers were requested to Hospice Care of Westchester and Putnam.
