Sternsinger 2025: Children fight for rights and solidarity worldwide!

Austria's star singers are starting this year's collection campaign on December 27th under the motto "Raise your voice! - Star singing for children's rights". The famous children dressed up as “The Three Wise Men” will receive prominent support in the coming days: Cardinal Christophe Schönborn will receive the first visitors on Friday, while Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will welcome the star singer delegations to the Hofburg on Monday. On January 1st, the star singers will be on the guest list of Pope Francis in Rome, which underlines the importance and international character of this tradition, as reported by the Epiphany Campaign of the Catholic Youth Group.

Commitment to children's rights

In total, over 85,000 children across Austria dress up as Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar and go from house to house not only to spread the Christmas message of peace, but also to collect donations for various aid projects. The money collected flows into around 500 projects that support children and young people in disadvantaged regions around the world. This year, special attention will be paid to aid projects in Nepal, where many children suffer from poverty and violence, says Kathpress. The aim of the campaign is to provide the affected children with a better future through education, protection and care.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has stood for the rights of children to education, protection and participation for 35 years, is actively supported by the Sternsinger campaign. In regions such as Turkana in northern Kenya and Colombia, Epiphany program partners are fighting a lack of access to education and medical care. Here, children benefit from peace education programs and therapies that help them overcome violence and neglect, the star singers report. The initiative shows the urgency of strengthening children's rights worldwide and promoting their implementation, especially in crisis regions.

The campaign not only shows nationwide solidarity, but also the desire for change: the star singing not only maintains tradition, but also sends a clear message of justice and unity for the rights of children.
