In Blindenmarkt, the elementary school's Christmas project “Shoeboxes for Children” was successfully implemented again this year. The students put a lot of effort into packing gifts into shoeboxes, which are then distributed to children in need. A special thank you goes to Daniela Kritzl, who not only provided the boxes, but also personally brought them to the “Good Samaritans”. Lower Austrian News (NOEN) reported. This year everyone involved hopes that the donated gifts will make many children's eyes light up.

School education through the ages

The history of the school system in Germany shows how access to education has changed over the centuries. Until the 17th century, attending school was only reserved for a small, privileged class. It was only through the Reformation and the associated school regulations that compulsory schooling was introduced for broad sections of the population. When the sovereigns tweaked educational policy, this often happened under the influence of church ideas when the first “elementary schools” were founded for the common people, as in the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) was detained.

Wilhelm von Humboldt's Prussian reform plan in the 19th century, which provided for comprehensive education for all children, was slowed down by conservative forces, but it led to a cross-party discussion about the need for equal schooling. In the Weimar Republic there were also attempts to abolish class divisions in the school system. These developments have fundamentally contributed to the creation of educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their social background and the financial background of their parents. The goal of no longer viewing education as a privilege but as a right still has an impact on the German education system today.
