Raiffeisen Salzburg is revolutionizing medical education at the PMU!

From 2025, Raiffeisen Salzburg will provide training at the Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU) support financially. This decision was highlighted by Heinz Konrad, General Director of the Raiffeisen Association Salzburg, as an essential investment in the future of Salzburg as a science location. Raiffeisen Salzburg, which has been active in the region for over 130 years, is involved in a variety of areas, including culture, education, social affairs, environmental projects and sport.

“Investments in education and research are essential to position Salzburg as an attractive location for highly qualified professionals,” explains Konrad. This shows that the Raiffeisen Association is one of the main players in the regional education system and cooperates with several educational institutions, such as the Paris Lodron University and the FH Salzburg.

PMU scholarship system

Wolfgang Sperl, Rector of the PMU, emphasizes the importance of the newly introduced scholarship system. It enables talented students, regardless of their parents' financial circumstances, to study medicine, nursing and pharmacy. This is particularly relevant because in Austria, studying medicine at public universities is in high demand and study places are limited, which leads many aspiring doctors to choose private universities.

Loud Medigate Many German students are interested in studying medicine in Austria in order to avoid the high requirements of the Numerus Clausus (NC) in Germany. The PMU, founded in 2002, is a private institution with two locations: Salzburg and Nuremberg. It offers a combination of human medicine, nursing science and pharmacy and aims to train its students to become doctors, nursing scientists and pharmacists with a high level of competence and social responsibility.

Training structure and international partnerships

The PMU offers a three-stage admissions process that includes a written application, a comprehensive test and a personal interview. In Salzburg only 50 students are accepted per location each year, with the course lasting five years and with the title “Dr. med. univ.” completes. By taking the USMLE Step 1 exam, graduates gain international recognition.

The university not only promotes education, but also research. It is in close cooperation with renowned universities worldwide, including the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and the Yale University. These partnerships expand the network of academic teaching hospitals in Salzburg and Bavaria.

Competencies and recognition

The PMU takes a multidisciplinary approach to education and offers numerous fields of study, including human medicine, pharmacy and nursing science. The lessons are in German and there are no tuition fees, which increases the attractiveness for many international students.

For Raiffeisen Salzburg, supporting the PMU is not only a step towards qualified higher education, but also sustainable support for regional development. With an aggregate balance sheet total of 22.2 billion euros in 2023 and around 370,000 customers served, Raiffeisen Salzburg is the market leader in the financial services business and sees itself as having a duty to actively contribute to shaping the future of the region.

In summary, the partnership between Raiffeisen Salzburg and the PMU is viewed as a significant step for medical education in Austria, which not only broadens access to high-quality education, but also puts social responsibility in the foreground.
