Non-food discounter expands: Vorarlberg in Switzerland's spotlight!
A new star in the discounter heaven is conquering Vorarlberg! The Dutch non-food discounter Action has established itself in the region and is now planning to expand into Switzerland. Two branches in Hard and Bürs are already very popular, not least thanks to numerous Swiss customers who are attracted by low prices and a wide range of household goods and sweets. According to a report by VOL.AT The Swiss literally open the doors - almost every second car in the parking lot has a Swiss license plate. The success has not gone unnoticed, and expansion plans are already well underway, with new job openings in Basel, Bachenbülach and Winterthur, according to the Tages-Anzeiger.
The challenge is becoming increasingly noticeable for large retail groups such as Migros and Coop. Action is pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy and plans to open around 1,400 new locations in Europe by 2026. The relevance of these developments is also clear in the neighboring region, where the competitive conditions for many companies can change. A strong concept and a clever market strategy behind the pleasing sales of 13.8 billion euros last year could redefine the rules of the game in retail.
Technological developments in the Rhine Valley
While Action is transforming the retail landscape, the Rhine Valley is showing that there are also rising forces in the high-tech industry. Cooperation is playing an increasing role in the cross-border economic area that stretches between Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg. Companies that operate in both Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg promote healthy competition and leverage common strengths, as Brigitte Haas and Markus Bänziger emphasize. An important goal remains to strengthen cross-border connections and initiate more visible projects to exploit the potential of these economic areas, as the Rhine Valley24 explained.
The Rhine Valley is now considered one of the top locations for high-tech in Europe, with over 250,000 jobs and 25,000 companies. The initiatives to improve these economic relationships, such as the “Rheintaler Unternehmertreff”, show that there is a lot of room for improvement in the area. Comprehensive cooperation in education and various projects, including the new HSG campus at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, could further strengthen the region and increase competitiveness.
