New reading paradise: Favoritn library opens its doors!
Vienna is experiencing two exciting developments in the world of libraries. The new “Neues Landgut” library will open in Favoriten on February 21, 2025. With over 900 square meters of space, it stands out as the third largest library in the city of Vienna. Among those present are Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr, the district director Marcus Franz and Bernhard Pöckl, the head of the city of Vienna's libraries. The modern concept of the library promises to offer, in addition to a variety of media offerings, an inviting café and a “library of things”, which makes the visit a special experience. The ceremonial opening will be accompanied by a music program and will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Laxenburger Straße 4, like wien.gv.at reported.
Hietzinger library moves
At the same time, the library in Hietzing will be moving. The new location at Preyergasse 1-7 promises not only more space on 350 square meters, but also modern reading corners, study areas and even an area for magazines. District head Silke Kobald emphasizes that the new room will be equipped with sockets and internet access in order to offer students an optimal learning environment. The move has become necessary because the adult education center, which previously housed the library, will be completely renovated from summer 2022. The new location is not only centrally located, but also barrier-free, making it a popular meeting place for schools and local events, reports meinkreis.at.
Both projects underline the importance of libraries as educational institutions and social meeting places in the city. Vice Mayor Wiederkehr emphasizes that “investments in educational measures are crucial for the quality of a society”. The new libraries should not only be places for reading, but also for encounters and exchanges, and this could lead Vienna into a new chapter of education and culture.
