Due to billions of bills: Union and SPD on the way to the new government!

In the exploratory talks on the formation of a new German federal government, the Union and the SPD have agreed on a billion -dollar financing package. This reported Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz last night. A central point of this agreement is that all defense spending over one percent of gross domestic product is excluded from the restrictions of the debt brake. In addition, a new special fund of 500 billion euros for infrastructure expenditure for the next ten years will be created. The corresponding applications for amending the Basic Law should be brought into the Bundestag next week, according to the information from OE24.

The negotiations have not yet been completed. As already reported by BR24, the talks are to be continued during the day. Another main topic is the financing of additional help for Ukraine, which, according to Merz, should be clarified until the upcoming EU summit. Both Merz and the SPD boss Lars Klingbeil emphasized the need for financial clarity, not only in terms of Ukraine aids, but also for infrastructure projects, social issues and economic competitiveness. There are also two separate special funds in the three -digit billion dollar area, which are intended for the areas of defense and infrastructure.
