Art in public spaces

The “All Eyes On Us” project is an excellent example of the growing importance of art in public spaces. Like the platform kubi-online.de emphasizes, theater halls, concert halls and museums have a responsibility to promote access to art and enable dialogue. Art projects that take place in public spaces aim to come into direct contact with the population.

Since the 1960s and 1970s, art movements such as Land Art and Public Art have used public space as a platform for creative expression. Examples of this include Dorit Ehlers' “Border Poetry” campaign, where citizens submitted photos of places that need change, or “Art for the Sky,” which creates gigantic images of people to raise awareness of climate change. These projects impressively illustrate how art not only offers aesthetic experiences, but also addresses social issues and stimulates reflection.

Art city tours

In order to draw attention to art in public spaces, the city's culture department organizes guided tours under the motto “Art in Public Spaces”. These will take place on November 12th. Two tours are planned: the first at 1 p.m. along the Dalke and the Botanical Garden, and the second at 5 p.m. through Gütersloh city center, where well-known and overlooked works of art will be discovered.
