Zwentendorf becomes CO2 neutral: Large photovoltaic project started!

In Zwentendorf, a significant step towards CO2 neutrality was taken in the market town. After three years of intensive planning, the construction of an open-space photovoltaic system with an output of 520 kWp (kilowatt peak) has now started. This system complements the existing PV systems on the community roofs and will increase total production to an impressive 1,150 kWp, almost completely covering the community's electricity needs. Environmental councilor Manfred Bichler emphasizes that this represents the final stage in achieving CO2 neutrality, which has been in the works for four years. As the nope reported, this project is a significant milestone for the community.

Environmental protection and sustainability in focus

The new photovoltaic system will be installed on a former excavated landfill next to the community collection center. A total of around 1,350 solar panels are to be erected by the beginning of October 2024. This installation goes hand in hand with ecological initiatives, such as the planting of flowering meadows to increase biodiversity and provide a habitat for various animal species. Mayor Marion Török was enthusiastic and thanked the environmental council for its tireless commitment to the climate crisis. The total costs for the project amount to around 500,000 euros and were unanimously approved by the local council Community website can report.

Piling work on the project site will begin on September 3, 2024. These are expected to take around 14 days and may involve some noise as the work will be carried out Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm.
