Traffic chaos in Magdeburg: Bridges urgently need to be relieved!

The traffic situation is getting worse in Magdeburg! Jörg Rehbaum, the city's head of traffic, announced urgently needed measures for dilapidated bridges. In order to minimize the risks of vibrations caused by traffic, the loads on the bridges must be reduced. Rehbaum explained: “We have to remove the loads on both bridges.” In addition, a distance requirement is required for trucks with a load of over 7.5 tons, which now have to keep a distance of at least 70 meters from each other. Rehbaum warns that these restrictions will result in significant traffic disruptions and longer traffic jams.

While drivers have to prepare for even more traffic jams, Rehbaum hopes that many drivers will take side roads. However, he does not expect complete traffic chaos, but also emphasizes that the city has hardly any options to actively direct traffic. Jörg Rehbaum himself has had a long career in urban development and has been deputy for urban development, construction and transport in Magdeburg since 2021. He used to be, among other things, mayor of Burg and has gained extensive experience in urban planning, as his biography shows Wikipedia shows.

The bridges are a critical point in the city's transport infrastructure, and Rehbaum's measures are no coincidence. To ensure the safety of all road users, these decisions must be made now. Despite the challenges, the city administration is determined to bring traffic under control. The next few weeks will show how well these measures actually work.
