Revolutionary snake enclosure opens at Aqua Terra Zoo!
A state-of-the-art venomous snake facility has opened at the Aqua Terra Zoo in the House of the Sea, which is considered a “milestone in modern venomous snake keeping”. Loud Small newspaper The construction of the flak tower presented several challenges. 50 tons of reinforced concrete were removed and an additional area of 20 cubic meters was created.
To ensure the statics of the new facility, four tons of steel beams were installed. The security measures include, among other things, a guard area fully monitored by cameras and an automated door lock that forms a secure lock. There are also double to triple escape protections. Protective baskets that are integrated into water drains prevent animals from escaping.
Modern living conditions for reptiles
Particularly noteworthy is the air-conditioned chamber system, which enables targeted temperature control for the cold-blooded reptiles. Anti-reflective glass ensures almost invisible boundaries between visitors and queues, which further complements the security concept. This measure corresponds to the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act, which requires species-appropriate nutrition, care and accommodation for animals.
Before buying a reptile, experts say you should find out about its biology and husbandry requirements. The keeping in the terrarium must also be optimized for the specific species. Many reptiles, including venomous and snake species, require special climate conditions that are crucial for care and breeding.
At the Aqua Terra Zoo, great emphasis is also placed on imparting knowledge and not creating fear. There are around 3,900 species of snakes worldwide, around 600 of which are poisonous. The toxicity of these animals is primarily for hunting, digestion and defense, but snakes generally do not pose an immediate threat to humans.
A highlight of the new facility is the terrace in the winter garden of “Café Sharky”, which floats 20 meters above Eszterházypark. The glass floor gives guests a breathtaking view of the city as well as insights into the “Krokipark”. The innovative concept shows that the zoo prioritizes both animal welfare and the visitor experience.
