Anniversary 2025: Rome is preparing for big celebrations!

On January 5, 2025, the Catholic Church faces significant celebrations in the first month of the year. The year 2025 will be celebrated as the Jubilee Ordinario, and the most important saints and dates of the Catholic calendar will be honored. The celebrations that take place in January are particularly noteworthy.

The most important events of the month include:

• 1. Januar: Solemnidad de Santa María, Madre de Dios – die Feier der Mutter Gottes zu Beginn des neuen Jahres.
• 3. Januar: Fiesta del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús – Feier des Namens Jesus, der in einem Traum von San José offenbart wurde.
• 6. Januar: Solemnidad de Epifanía del Señor – die Feier der Manifestation des Messias, welche oftmals bereits am 5. Januar begangen wird.
• 12. Januar: Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor – hiermit wird der Beginn des öffentlichen Dienstes Jesu und die Offenbarung der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit markiert.
• 21. Januar: Memoria de Santa Inés – das Gedenken an die Märtyrerin Santa Inés, die in Rom starb.
• 22. Januar: Memoria de la Beata Laura Vicuña – ein Gedenken für die Beate aus Chile, die ihr Leben für die Bekehrung ihrer Mutter opferte.
• 24. Januar: Memoria de San Francisco de Sales – das Gedenken an den Bischof und Doktor der Kirche, der viele Menschen zur katholischen Gemeinschaft zurückführte.
• 25. Januar: Fiesta de la Conversión de San Pablo, Apóstol – die Feier der Bekehrung des Apostels Paulus.
• 28. Januar: Memoria de Santo Tomás de Aquino – das Gedenken an den für seine Weisheit bekannten Priester und Doktor der Kirche.
• 31. Januar: Memoria de San Juan Bosco – das Gedenken an den Priester, der die Salesianer und den Orden der Töchter von Maria Auxiliadora gründete.

Preparations for the 2025 celebration

In parallel with these celebrations, the city administration and the church are undertaking preparations for the Jubilee 2025. On January 12, the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, informed Pope Francis about the progress in preparations for the Jubilee year. The estimated cost of the preparations is around 4,000 million euros.

During the meeting, a decree was presented outlining the main measures to prepare for the 2025 Jubilee. Two important decrees have been issued for the necessary work:

• Erstes Dekret: umfasst 87 Interventionen mit Kosten von 2.300 Millionen Euro.
• Zweites Dekret: legt die Gesamteinlagen von „nahezu“ 4.000 Millionen Euro fest.

Mayor Gualtieri also thanked the Italian government under Giorgia Meloni for its immediate support and emphasized the goal of improving the infrastructure and public spaces in Rome. Among the important projects planned are the renovation of the Termini train station plaza, the construction of a youth hostel in Santa Maria della Pietà and the creation of centers for people with disabilities and homeless people.

The 2025 Jubilee will have the theme “Peregrinos de la Esperanza” and will be the second Jubilee year during Pope Francis’ pontificate, following the extraordinary Jubilee in 2015.
