Anniversary 2025: Rome is preparing for big celebrations!

On January 5, 2025, the Catholic Church faces significant celebrations in the first month of the year. The year 2025 is celebrated as a jubilee year, and the most important saints and data of the Catholic calendar are recognized. The celebrations that take place in January are particularly remarkable.

The most important events of the month are:

  • 1. January: Solemnidad de Santa María, Madre de Dios - The celebration of the Mother of God at the beginning of the new year.
  • 3. January: Fiesta del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús - celebration of the name Jesus, which was revealed in a dream of San José.
  • 6. January: Solemnidad de Epifanía del Señor - the celebration of the Messiah manifestation, which is often already celebrated on January 5th.
  • 12. January: Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor - This marks the beginning of the public service of Jesus and the revelation of the Holy Trinity.
  • 21. January: memoria de Santa Inés - the memory of the martyr Santa Inés, who died in Rome.
  • 22. January: memoria de la Beata Laura Vicuña - a commemoration for the Beate from Chile who sacrificed her life for the conversion of her mother.
  • 24. January: memoria de San Francisco de Sales - the memory of the bishop and doctor of the church, who attributed many people to the Catholic community.
  • 25. January: Fiesta de la Conversión de San Pablo, Apóstol - The celebration of the conversion of the apostle Paulus.
  • 28. January: memoria de Santo Tomás de Aquino - the memory of the priest and doctor of the church known for his wisdom.
  • 31. January: memoria de San Juan Bosco - the memory of the priest, who founded the Salesians and the Order of the Daughters of Maria Auxiliadora.

preparations for the jubilee 2025

In parallel to these celebrations, the city administration and the church take on preparations for the jubilation 2025. On January 12, the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, informed Pope Francis about the progress in preparations for the jubilee year. The estimated costs of the preparations amount to around 4,000 million euros.

In the course of the meeting, a decree was presented that the main measures to prepare for the cheers in 2025. Two significant decrees have been issued for the necessary work:

  • First decree: comprises 87 interventions with costs of 2,300 million euros.
  • second decree: defines the total deposits of "almost" 4,000 million euros.

Mayor Gualtieri also thanked the Italian government under Giorgia Meloni for the surrounding support and emphasized the goal of improving the infrastructure and public places in Rome. The planned important projects include the renewal of the Plaza of the Termini Railway station, the construction of a youth hostel in Santa Maria della Pietà and the establishment of centers for people with disabilities and homeless people.

The jubilation 2025 will be under the motto "Peregrinos de la Esperanza" and is the second jubilee year during the pontificate of Pope Francis, after the extraordinary jubilation in 2015.
