Major construction site on the Reutlingen university campus: cafeteria modernization started!
There is currently a lot of construction going on on the university campus in Reutlingen. The impressive construction cranes and excavators reveal it: The general renovation of the cafeteria is in full swing and is expected to be completed by 2026 with an investment of over 31 million euros, according to GEA reported. The aim is not only to modernize the cafeteria, but also to make it climate-friendly. This includes a thermally insulated facade, connection to the district heating network and the installation of a photovoltaic system that will generate up to 85 kilowatts.
A new meeting place for students
The new cafeteria will be a central contact point for students. Spacious areas are planned for a canteen and a cafeteria on around 2,600 square meters, which should offer a high quality of stay. A public square with an open-air area is also integrated into the design to enrich campus life. On the upper floor, around 1,300 square meters are earmarked for the Robert Bosch Center's power electronics course as well as other student workstations.
But that's not all! Another major project at the university – a state-of-the-art laboratory building – is also in the starting blocks. Although permits were issued in February 2023, construction has not yet begun. Some preparations, such as laying cables, have been made, but construction has yet to officially begin. This new building will offer state-of-the-art laboratories and office space, which will not only be available to the Life Sciences/Applied Chemistry, but also to other faculties, according to statements from my-stuwe.
