The anti-aircraft bunker on Feldstrasse in Hamburg, once a grim witness to the Second World War, has been transformed into a unique landmark. Previously known as the gray block, the building now known as the “Green Bunker” rises 58 meters into the sky with its newly added five floors. The transformation was completed in summer 2024 and offers visitors not only breathtaking views of the city, but also access to a green rooftop park measuring over 1,400 square meters. The roof garden not only offers relaxation, but also spectacular views of sights such as the Michel and the Elbphilharmonie. Visitors can walk along a 560 meter long “bunker path” that circles the planted areas. The concept combines historical architecture with modern elements and thus attracts numerous tourists and locals. Access to the roof garden is free, but there may be waiting times, especially on weekends, as only 2,000 people are allowed into the bunker at a time.
