Traffic chaos before Christmas: Commuters have to be careful!

Current construction sites and train cancellations are causing concern for commuters between Berlin and Cottbus. From now until Christmas Eve 2024 there will be significant restrictions on the RE2 and RE7 lines. The reason for this is extensive construction work on the Deutsche Bahn rail network, which not only disrupts the flow of traffic, but also makes travel planning for Christmas travelers more difficult. As the MAZ reported that numerous trains are canceled, including between Berlin-Wannsee and Königs Wusterhausen and between Nauen and Cottbus. Commuters have to switch to alternative connections.

Travelers who commute from Cottbus to Berlin during the Christmas period are particularly affected. The Lausitzer Rundschau highlights that on the nights from Monday to Tuesday and from Tuesday to Wednesday, there are fewer additional stops on the trains and the last through train from Berlin Central Station to Cottbus departs at 7:23 p.m. In the evenings, commuters increasingly have to take the S-Bahn to Königs Wusterhausen in order to change to the trains there.

Timetable changes until Christmas

Further train cancellations are expected on December 23rd and 24th. Numerous RE2 and RE7 trains will once again not be running or will be diverted. These disruptions also extend to the return journeys to the celebrations. Deutsche Bahn recommends that travelers obtain detailed information before their planned journeys and, if necessary, choose alternative routes in order to avoid missed train connections. The latest information on timetable changes can be accessed online on the websites of Deutsche Bahn and the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association.
