Over 11,000 lost things: These were the strangest finds in 2024!

In 2024, over 11,000 pieces of luggage such as suitcases and backpacks were lost on trains and at stations, representing the most common lost items, such as the ORF Vienna reported. In second place are electronics, including cell phones and cameras, with almost 5,600 items, followed by 3,600 lost wallets and documents. In total, an average of 84 items were dropped off at seven Lost & Found locations every day, of which around 38 percent were successfully returned to their owners. Items that are not picked up will be sent to public places in accordance with legal regulations.

Curiosities and special finds

In addition to the everyday lost items, some unusual finds were also recorded. Travelers not only forget everyday accessories, but also skating equipment such as skateboards, ice skates and even a boat. 390 annual passes, numerous credit cards and 338 passports were also left on the train. In one notable case, 103 musical instruments, including guitars, trumpets and violins, were collected.

Lost property management is managed by DB InfrGO AG for various railway companies, such as DB Regio AG and Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland GmbH. For lost items on trains of other railway companies, direct contact with the relevant railway company is required, according to the information on the website German railways. An online tool allows travelers to report lost items and document the loss efficiently.
