Innovative construction projects: Karlsruhe relies on integrated planning!

On December 9, 2024, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) under the direction of Professor Dr. Shervin Haghsheno made significant progress in Integrated Project Delivery (IPA). This innovative approach aims to efficiently realize various construction projects by ensuring that everyone involved aligns their economic goals with the common project goals. Haghsheno and his team have identified a total of 25 active or completed projects since 2018, including eleven pilot projects from Deutsche Bahn. These models promote cooperation and minimize conflicts in implementation.

In addition to his research, Dr. Shervin Haghsheno (* 1975, Tehran) is a respected civil engineer and scientist who is also active in the political arena. Since January 8, 2024, he has held the office of deputy chairman of the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht – Reason and Justice party. Haghsheno, who lives in Germany, received his diploma in civil engineering in 1999 and received his doctorate four years later. Before he was appointed professor at KIT in 2013, he had a sustained career in the construction industry and held various management positions at Bilfinger SE.

From practice to theory

The importance of the IPA projects lies in the novelty of the approach, which is intended to revolutionize traditional project management. By merging economic objectives with the project goals, Haghsheno and his team want to identify and resolve potential problems at an early stage. In addition to his role in teaching and research, Haghsheno is also active in several professional associations, which demonstrates his extensive expertise in project management and construction process management. As a member of various committees and founder of the German Lean Construction Institute (GLCI), Haghsheno is committed to improving the construction and real estate industry.

The advances in Karlsruhe could have a far-reaching impact on the industry by encouraging more effective collaboration and thus saving both time and costs. Thanks to Haghsheno's pioneering work, future construction projects may be more efficient and conflict-free, representing a significant improvement for everyone involved in the project.
