Timetable change: S7 is cut - do commuters now have to change?

Next Sunday, December 15, 2024, a timetable change will take place in the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV), which brings significant changes for many commuters in the Oberland. From January 1, 2025, the districts of Landsberg am Lech and Weilheim-Schongau will be integrated into the tariff area, which opens up new opportunities for travelers. The changes are particularly relevant for users of the S7 S7: This will only commute between Wolfratshausen and the main train station, without stopping at the Hackerbrücke, such as Radio Oberland

New timetable, new challenges

The S7 is divided in this context, which means that the previous east-heast is operated by the new S5, which runs from Kreuzstraße via the Ostbahnhof to Pasing. The trains of the S7 will reach Munich main train station in the future on platform 36 in the Starnberg wing station. This forces passengers to walk through the arrival hall for a few minutes to switch to other S-Bahn lines. Passenger associations such as Pro Bahn express criticism of these changes, which mean that travelers always have to change when they want to go to the city center, which is particularly problematic at peak times, such as Süddeutsche Zeitung notes.

The MVV responsible, on the other hand, hope for fewer delays and higher reliability in the entire S-Bahn system due to the changes. Although Icking's Green Council looks with positive expectations for the changes, the criticism of commuters and municipalities comes that demands more individual mobility. The bus connections in the district are also experiencing adjustments, with lines 370 and 378 in future driving every hour. In many ways, detours and changes can be expected in many ways, which the commuters in the Upper Bavarian region presents challenges.
