Timetable change: S7 will be cut – Do commuters now have to change?
Next Sunday, December 15, 2024, there will be a timetable change in the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV), which will bring significant changes for many commuters in the Oberland. From January 1, 2025, the districts of Landsberg am Lech and Weilheim-Schongau will be integrated into the tariff area, opening up new opportunities for travelers. The changes are particularly relevant for users of the S7 S-Bahn line: In the future, this will only commute between Wolfratshausen and the main station, without stopping at Hackerbrücke Radio Oberland reported.
New timetable, new challenges
In this context, the S7 will be split up, so that the previous eastern branch will be served by the new S5, which runs from Kreuzstrasse via Ostbahnhof to Pasing. In the future, S7 trains will reach Munich Central Station on platform 36 in the Starnberg wing station. This forces passengers to walk through the arrivals hall for a few minutes to change to other S-Bahn lines. Passenger associations such as Pro Bahn are criticizing these changes, which mean that travelers always have to change trains if they want to go to the city center, which is particularly problematic at peak times South German newspaper notes.
Those responsible at MVV, on the other hand, hope that the changes will result in fewer delays and greater reliability in the entire S-Bahn system. Although the Green local council of Icking has positive expectations of the changes, criticism comes from commuters and municipalities who are demanding more individual mobility. The bus connections in the district are also undergoing adjustments, with lines 370 and 378 running hourly on Saturdays in the future. Diversions and changes are to be expected in many respects, which poses challenges for commuters in the Upper Bavarian area.
