Rail construction stop is over: Hamburg-Berlin can be reached again in under two hours!

Deutsche Bahn has finally given passengers between Hamburg and Berlin a normal travel experience again. After four months of construction work, the tracks and switches on the busy route between Elbe and Spree are ready for regular train traffic again. From today on, travelers can reduce their travel time to under two hours, as the cumbersome detours via Uelzen and Salzwedel are now a thing of the past MoPo reported. With around 60 direct connections per day, the railway is well prepared for the upcoming wave of Christmas travel.

Important track renovations

In recent months, over 74 kilometers of track and 100 switches have been replaced on this crucial route. This work is essential to ensure continued high speeds for trains. Many bridges have also received an upgrade and train stations have been modernized to provide passengers with a more comfortable experience. These comprehensive measures are designed to strengthen the connection between the two metropolises, as up to 30,000 passengers are transported every day. Nevertheless, travelers have to prepare for future restrictions: from August next year, the route will be closed again for nine months in order to carry out extensive renovations, such as World reported.

During this nine-month renovation phase, the number of renewed tracks is expected to increase to 181 kilometers and over 200 switches will be replaced. Extensive diversions and high-quality rail replacement bus services are planned for the period of closure. Despite the challenges, Deutsche Bahn promises to improve the quality of travel, including through faster internet and better mobile phone coverage on the route. Adjustments to international traffic are also included in the new timetable to encourage passengers to travel.
