100,000 euros are at the train station: homeless man forgets his inheritance!
A spectacular incident occurred on December 19, 2024 at Schwandorf train station, when a homeless man, who was probably celebrating the money previously attributed to the holidays, simply left his valuables lying around. Among the scattered items found by Deutsche Bahn employees were an e-bike, a suitcase and a cell phone. The most notable find was a cloth bag containing over 42,000 euros in cash. The police cordoned off the location because it could not initially be ruled out that a crime had occurred merkur.de reported.
The officers remembered the 50-year-old who they had taken to an accommodation the previous evening because of his high alcohol level. After picking up the man, it quickly became clear that he was the rightful owner of the money. He explained to the police that it was an inheritance that he used to buy a high-quality e-bike and celebrate. “Trembling and in great excitement,” the homeless man thanked him for returning his valuables, which made his holiday considerably sweeter. “So Merry Christmas after all!” were the final words of the Federal Police in their press release.
Important information about lost items
Such incidents are not unique, as more than 250,000 items are lost in stations and trains every year. Travelers who have forgotten something can do so easily via the Deutsche Bahn’s lost property platform report. There you can also check whether your lost property has been found. If there is no positive result within four weeks of reporting, the investigation will be stopped and the lost items may be auctioned or destroyed, highlighting the importance of reporting lost items quickly.
