Ticket sales for the 46th edition of the Max Ophüls Preis film festival started on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Europagalerie in Saarbrücken. According to information from Saarbrücken newspaper ticket sales have increased compared to the previous year. In 2024, a total of 7,533 tickets were sold at the Saarland Museum. This year the number of tickets sold is already 8,193, which corresponds to an increase of 660 tickets or almost nine percent. Sales of festival passes and vouchers began on December 4th, with around 30 percent more passes and vouchers sold than last year.
The film festival Max Ophüls Prize, as on ffmop.de explained in detail, is awarded annually in Saarbrücken for the best feature film and aims to promote young female directors in German-speaking countries. The competition includes various categories in which both female directors and screenwriters are supported. Among other things, a prize will be awarded for the socially relevant film, which comes with prize money of 5,000 euros to shed light on topics of social importance.
Prizes and awards
The festival's various prizes include the award for best director, which is worth 5,500 euros, and the Fritz-Raff Screenplay Prize, which awards 13,000 euros to a female screenwriter. In addition, an Audience Prize will be awarded to the director with the highest audience rating and will be funded with 5,000 euros. There is also a youth jury prize, worth 2,500 euros, and an ecumenical jury prize, also worth 2,500 euros, which honors film contributions that deal with spiritual, human or social themes.
