Scandal proposal: Vacation for leisure accidents-a taboo breaks!

A controversial proposal from the Styria Chamber of Commerce ensures heated debates: Hermann Friedrich Talowski, division chairman for trade and craft and representative of the ÖVP business association, demands that sick leave that result from leisure accidents are offset against vacation days. In an interview, Talowski explained that an employee who is injured in football and is then on sick leave for a month should not have the right to continue to be the full wage payment of the company. He emphasizes that this is not related to the company and that vacation entitlements should be used instead, since the employee does not lose any income during this time and only reduces his vacation entitlement, such as ots (ots.at) reported.

This view comes across the vehement rejection by the freedom economy. René Schachner, deputy division chairman, criticizes Talowski's proposal as out of date and split. In his opinion, trust between employers and employees is jeopardized here. In the event of a leisure accident, employees would not only have to fear health but also financial disadvantages. Schachner demands a future -oriented solution that relieves both employers and employees and relies on personal responsibility and trust. In his opinion, this would lead to a harmonious cooperation, according to Schachner, as German crafts newspaper (Deutsche-werks-zeitung.de) reports.

vacation entitlements in Germany

In addition to this political dispute, it is important to consider the legal regulations on vacation entitlements. In Germany, employees are entitled to at least 24 days of vacation a year on a six-day week. This regulation not only applies to full -time employees, but also to part -time employees and marginal employees. Special regulations exist for young people and severely disabled people who are entitled to additional vacation. In many cases, companies may also make other agreements for over -legal vacation, which can influence operational customs.

The topic of vacation entitlements and the correct handling of illness in the event of leisure accidents could gain in importance in the current discussions about Talowski's proposal, especially with regard to how employers should deal with the requirements of their employees, while at the same time they have an eye on economic efficiency. The outcry surrounding the offsetting of leisure accidents with vacation entitlements shows that many interests could collapse and a clear legal regulation could be necessary.
