The part-time trend: Companies are increasingly relying on flexibility!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - An alarming trend is emerging on the job market: the proportion of advertised full -time positions has fallen on historical lows. As the data from kariere.at , the proportion of full-time job offers is only 74 percent, while in 2014 it was still 89 percent. This development goes hand in hand with an increase in part -time offers that now make up 16 percent of the advertised positions - in 2014 it was only 6 percent. The desire for part-time work is particularly high in the IT industry; Here, 62 percent of HR managers strive for a reduced working time.
flexibility as a key
The companies react to the demand for more flexible work models: 66 percent of those surveyed state that they sometimes also write down full -time positions with the option for part -time. These adjustments could alleviate the competitive pressure in the specialist area, but the increase in part -time positions also means that the shortage of skilled workers is further tightened, as a survey by the IFO Institute in cooperation with Randstad shows. There, 41 percent of companies plan to hire new part -time workers, but intend 54 percent, not to create any further part -time positions.
From the point of view of many companies, part -time models are advantageous: Over 75 percent of companies surveyed see advantages for their company in part -time positions. However, only 18 percent are convinced that part -time workers increase productivity. The research results illustrate that flexible working hours, as offered by flexitime models, are one of the main strategies to keep employees in the long term. These measures can create the balance between the need for skilled workers and the existing demand for more leisure time.
