Vocational training: 85% of the BFI Vienna graduates benefit!

A current survey shows that vocational training and further education offers significant added value for specialists. The executive board of the BFI Vienna, Franz-Josef Lackinger emphasizes that 85% of the surveyed have been able to determine positive effects on their professional situation. The survey, carried out in May 2025 under 700 graduates of the past five years, illustrates the relevance of a high qualification for professional security and opportunities for advancement.

of the respondents stated 50% of experiencing personal advantages through the training, such as an increased self -confidence and the structure of new networks. In addition, 30% reported improved work after further training. The financial aspects are particularly impressive: 25% of the employees received a higher salary after further training, while a similar percentage was able to take on new tasks in the company, including management positions and project management.

insights into the salary increases

The report also shows that 16% of the graduates were able to secure a new job through the training. 7% did the next career step, which was associated with promotion or switching to independence. A remarkable point is that 24% before the training, provides information that it led to a salary increase, and with a training period of more than eight days, this proportion rose to an impressive 36%. The median earnings rose for 500 euros net after the training.

These positive trends occur independently of the chosen industry or the duration of the courses. A particularly remarkable observation is that short training and further training, such as those of four hours, can also have positive effects, such as the report from the Federal Center for Political Education

funding and support

Vocational training courses are favored by a variety of funding opportunities. Under certain conditions, employers can receive support from unemployment insurance or tax benefits for further training costs. These funding covers course costs, loss costs during training and living costs.

The introduction of educational vouchers in 2003 to promote further training has played an important role. These vouchers ensure the assumption of further training costs, but require personal advice and determination of the qualification requirement. Participation in funded further training has also proven to be positive for the employment and income of the participants.

Despite these improvements, the experience shows that the number of participation in vocational training has remained relatively constant despite expanded funding opportunities. The development of a national further training strategy since 2018 and current programs such as Wegenbau are important steps to support low -qualified and older workers.

The results of the survey among the graduates of the BFI Vienna emphasize the urgency and the relevance of vocational training in a constantly changing labor market and could serve as a model for future initiatives in the field of labor market policy.
