Mourning for Walter Egger: Eberschwanger TV star dies!

Walter Egger, the legendary presenter and secondary school principal from Eberschwang, died on December 5th at the age of 76. With an impressive career spanning more than 35 years at ORF, Egger created over 2,700 programs and shaped not only the media landscape, but also the cultural life of his home region of Innviertel. In his free time he was a passionate fisherman and enjoyed socializing in his favorite restaurant. Known for his authentic connection to his homeland and his humor, Egger also set political accents with his annual reviews that made him a cult figure, such as Nachrichten.at reported.

His creative talent was evident not only in the numerous radio programs, but also in literature. With works such as “Eggerisch gredt”, a dialect volume, he not only left linguistic traces, but also a deeper connection to his home community of Eberschwang. During his performances at the Kellerbräu in Ried, he reached an audience that had to fight for the coveted tickets for his “Derblecka” format every year. Last but not least, Egger was also known for his momentous voice, which was remembered by many listeners. “Your life is a mountain and your path leads uphill…” is what it says on his ticket, an expression of his attitude to life, like that ORF reported.

Farewell to a cult figure

Walter Egger's death leaves a noticeable void. On Friday, December 13th, a holy funeral service will be held in his honor in the Eberschwang parish church. Meanwhile, a prayer session for the popular presenter will be held at the same church on Thursday, December 12. He not only left behind grieving relatives, but also many fans and admirers who appreciated his work and will miss his voice.
