Fatal paragliding crash in Wefenweng: mountain rescuers in use!

Werfenweng, Österreich - A tragic incident shook the Wefenweng region in Salzburg: On February 19, a 42-year-old German paraglider pilot crashed shortly after the start of Bischling West. The crash occurred in rough terrain and initially remained unnoticed until a colleague of the missing person alarmed after he did not appear to work. Immediately the mountain rescuers started throwing and the alpine police started a search, supported by a police helicopter who used a thermal imaging camera. "For the time being, we had no clues," reported Gerhard Kremser, the district manager of the Pongau mountain rescue, on the worrying situation.

search action and tragic find

The search continued until late at night on the evening of February 19, but was unsuccessful. It was not until the following morning, February 20, that the search could be resumed with new forces. Thanks to intensive search measures, the rescue team discovered the pilot in a steep gutter, but every help was too late: the man could only be recovered dead. According to a report from the Salzburg mountain rescue, the pilot probably died immediately when crashed. The "dragonfly" police helicopter team took over the recruiting of the accident, while the alpine police started the investigation into the cause of the crash. A total of 15 mountain rescuers, five alpine policemen, the volunteer fire brigade and the Kit team of the Red Cross were deployed to cope with the tragedy, such as Salzburg.Af executed.

This tragic incident again throws a shadow about the popular paragliding flight in the region, where such fatal accidents can unfortunately occur. The fate of the 42-year-old man recalls how risky the paragliding can be despite the fascination for the air, and puts the security standards again.
